Zipping into Labor Day like... We just told the kids we are surprising them with a trip to the @nationalaquarium. Fun fact: When we took them last year, we bought tickets for the 4D movie experience. Had to leave five minutes in because our kids were all terrified. Crushing it! 🤦‍♂️ I had the kids all weekend while @saraduchess got to recharge with a girls weekend (it's very, very important parents get to recharge on their own). Loved getting to take them to Toy Story 4 (Pixar did such a wonderful job. So did my kids with sitting still!). And taking them out to eat. Did I spend Sunday afternoon in a power struggle trying to get my kids to clean?🧹🧼 Yep. Didn't post photos of that, but be very sure it happened. Tears were involved. Hugs followed. It's ups and downs. You just regroup and zip into the next day. Hope you have an amazing Labor Day. Got a lot of comments after posting in stories about my #parentinghack! If you have a gym membership, don't just use the child dropoff for working out. I use it all the time to get uninterrupted work time! It's essentially free babysitting with free WiFi, and your kid is right down the hall. Our YMCA had a couch I make myself at home at while working on #newmomsguidetonewdads or my grad certificate with @ecornell_online. If you did this twice a month just for doing all that annoying need-to-be-at-a-laptop stuff, you'd be amazed how much better you'd feel. Or just catch up on Stranger Things! Point is, self care takes many forms. Mine involves feeling productive, so this is a way my wife and I can address it without having her take the kids or spend more.
